About Therapy

1296902815Experience genuine growth.

You’ve found yourself here, and I want you to know you are in the right place! You’re worried about your kid, or you’re worried about yourself.

Challenges with anxiety, burnout, depression, grief, loneliness, or trauma are not particular to any age, social class, race, or ethnicity. I work with all that needs to grow in these areas.

My engaging style of therapy meets you where you are!

If you’re new to therapy or have butterflies…

I understand!

I always feel a bit nervous before meeting a client for the first time.

It just means you’re human!

The first thing we’ll do…

… is decide how we’ll work together: virtually or in person.

Virtual sessions are done through video on your preferred device (e.g., laptop or phone). Find a safe, comfortable, private place to talk, and I’ll be waiting for you! This option’s available if you’re in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, or Oregon.

For in-person sessions, my office is a treat! You’ll feel like it’s a space designed exactly for you. When you come in, you’ll find an open waiting area where you’ll sign in electronically. As you wait, I’ll have snacks and beverages to help you feel at home.

When you come back to my office, feel free to snuggle on the couch or take your shoes off while I get something for you. And in the office, you don’t have to worry about anyone hearing you in the next room. I have white noise-canceling technology to ensure your privacy.

Relax… this is your time.

1996252106Getting down to business…

I’ll have you complete a couple of assessments and an intake questionnaire to help me clarify how best to help you. We’ll talk about specific goals you would like to achieve and how often we should meet to get you the results you’re looking for.

As we start talking, you might be surprised at how much emotion comes out. If this happens to you, just know that I’ve been there! Deciding to change and dealing with your present circumstances can cause different feelings to come to the forefront.

I’ll help you through it… every step of the way. And when it’s time to leave the office, we can use an alternate exit instead of the waiting room to protect your privacy.

I take a targeted approach to therapy.

During the first two or three sessions, you will be in the “exploration stage.” During this time, you’ll get comfortable clarifying the problems that have brought you to counseling, and I will learn more about your story.

After that, you may be in the “planning stage,” where you’ll develop a plan for change. We’ll solidify your goals, make sure they’re within reach, and I’ll give you strategies to get there.

A month or so into therapy, you may be in the “action stage.” Here, you’ll take concrete steps to achieve lasting change. We’ll continually adjust what’s working and what’s not. Once you have met your goals, you can stop sessions or address a different area of concern.

If we need to go beyond three months of therapy, we should revise our treatment goals to meet you where you are.

You can do this!

I know it’s not easy to take care of yourself while balancing everything life throws at you. When life is “Go, go, go!!” therapy might seem like just another thing on your already-full plate.

But it’s what you have to do to grow into the life you want. And you CAN do it. I have every confidence in you. You might even surprise yourself!

It’ll take time and effort, but it’s absolutely achievable.

Let’s get started with a phone call to meet each other and discuss how I can help. Call today for your free consultation: (770) 696-6560.

About Me

AdminWhat led me to become a therapist…

When I was a child, my mother taught me a poem called “Children Learn What They Live.” It had a big influence on me – so much so that I knew at age 15 that I wanted to work with kids.

Then, when I was 20, my brother died. I was a junior in college, coming home for Christmas break, when the unimaginable happened. That tragedy affected me profoundly, igniting a passion for turning life’s lemons into lemonade.

So, I changed my major from education to psychology. I had a mission: to help people who are suffering but don’t know how to change it.

Some of my education and experience…

After earning my undergraduate degree in psychology, I was accepted to the University of Florida Graduate College of Education. I decided to focus on mental health counseling because of my experiences with those struggling with mental health.

I completed practica and internships at a juvenile detention center, a school for at-risk girls, and a prison for inmates struggling with substances. Those experiences solidified my desire to work with young people, and my first “real job” was at a youth transitional living program/shelter in Florida.

Eventually, my family and I moved to Atlanta. There, I began counseling children, teens, and families, first in an inpatient and then in a partial-hospitalization setting. I became licensed as a Professional Counselor in Georgia; I was promoted to Lead Therapist and then to Program Manager.

I later shifted my career to school counseling, and school became my home for 15 years! I honed my career counseling skills to guide my students through the most difficult part of life: high school.

It’s a blessing to be out and about in the mall, pharmacy, or grocery store and have former students tell me how I changed their lives.

Outside the office…

I’m married to the love of my life, and we’ve been blessed to have raised two daughters.

We’re now empty-nesters, enjoying travel, nature, and activities with our dog, October.

You’ll probably get to see October in my virtual office because he’s never more than a few steps away!
